Geotextiles, also called geotextile fabric, are a permeable geosynthetic material made from synthetic fibers by needlepunching or weaving. Being one of the new types of geosynthetic materials, geotextiles are produced in rolls, usually 4–6 meters wide and 50–100 meters long. Depending on the production technology, it is divided into woven and non-woven geotextiles.

Separation
Needle-punched geotextiles made of polyester staple fiber are used to separate building materials with different physical characteristics (particle size, particle size distribution, consistency, density), for example, between soil and sand or soil and concrete. This prevents mixing and leaching of materials, maintains the integrity of the structure and increases its load-bearing capacity.Filtration (reverse filtration)
