Advantages of Perforated Honeycomb Geocell Compared with Other Types of Geocell
1. Compare with Solid Non-perforated Geocell
1. Superior drainage capacity & eliminate hydrostatic pressure
Solid geocell completely blocks water exchange between upper and lower soil layers. Rainwater and pore water are trapped inside cells, easily triggering saturation, slope slippage or subgrade mud pumping.
Perforated geocell allows free water flow through pre-punched holes, discharging accumulated water timely to reduce underground water pressure. It avoids buoyancy uplift damage in rivers, reservoirs and drawdown zones.
2. Realize long-term ecological vegetation growth
Roots of grass and shrubs can penetrate the perforations and interlock with soil on both sides of the geocell sheet, forming soil-root-geocell composite reinforcement. Solid geocell cannot support root penetration, only suitable for pure aggregate filling without greening demand.
3. Stronger interlayer bonding performance
Soil on upper and lower sides interpenetrates through holes, improving friction between infill and geocell sheet, reducing internal sliding of filling layer on slopes.
4. Better adaptability to humid and fluctuating water environments
Perforated geocell is the preferred option for river revetment, reservoir riparian zones, waterlogged soft foundation; solid geocell is only recommended for dry heavy-duty road base with no ecological requirements.
2. Compare with Textured Solid Geocell
Textured solid geocell only increases surface friction between geocell and fillers, without drainage function.
- Perforated geocell retains optional textured surface to boost friction; meanwhile adds drainage and vegetation functions.
- Textured solid geocell still suffers poor water permeability, cannot be applied in wet slopes and waterfront projects.
3. Compare with Thin Light-Duty Geocell for Temporary Works
Low-spec thin geocell is usually solid, fragile and lacks anti-aging property.
Standard perforated HDPE geocell adopts full-modified raw materials, achieves three functions: soil confinement + drainage + ecological restoration, meeting permanent infrastructure standards for slope protection and hydraulic engineering.
