Quality Control Measures During Construction of Subgrade Honeycomb Geocell

1. Raw Material Inspection Before Construction

1. Check factory test reports of HDPE geocell, verify sheet thickness, welding spacing, weld peel strength, anti-aging indicators to ensure compliance with design and national standards; reject unqualified recycled low-quality materials.

2. Inspect auxiliary materials: U-shaped ground nails, non-woven geotextile, graded aggregate must meet technical requirements; aggregate shall not contain excessive mud, silt or oversized sharp stones that may puncture the geocell.

2. Base Subgrade Quality Control

1. Remove soft soil, silt, tree roots, hard protruding stones and sundries on the base surface completely.

2. Level and roll the foundation to reach the specified compaction degree and flatness; treat waterlogged soft foundation with drainage measures in advance to eliminate spring soil.

3. Lay geotextile isolation layer flat without tearing, overlap joints tightly to stop subgrade soil and aggregate from mixing.

3. Laying & Fixation Quality Control

1. Unfold geocell completely to full design size, no incomplete stretching, folding or local shrinkage; lay along the road transverse/longitudinal direction as required.

2. Anchor with U-shaped steel nails at interval specified by drawing; fix edges, middle and splicing joints firmly to prevent geocell from rebounding and shrinking during filling.

3. Overlap adjacent geocell panels reasonably, anchor overlapping parts double to avoid weak seams; cut damaged geocell sections and replace with new pieces, prohibit patching.

4. Filling & Compaction Key Control

1. Fill aggregate layer by layer, single filling thickness shall not exceed geocell height to prevent sheet deformation and weld fracture.

2. Fill evenly from both sides to the center, avoid unilateral piling that causes geocell displacement and distortion.

3. Adopt light roller first then heavy roller; forbid heavy impact rolling directly on geocell to protect welding joints. Check compaction degree layer by layer until reaching design standard.

4. For perforated geocell soft foundation sections, guarantee smooth drainage channels without aggregate blockage.

5. Protection & Finished Product Maintenance

1. After compaction of geocell cushion, finish upper base layer construction timely; prohibit long-term bare exposure of geocell under intense sunlight to avoid premature aging.

2. Forbid construction vehicles to turn sharply or brake hard directly on the unfixed geocell layer to prevent sheet scratch and weld breakage.

3. After completing the whole reinforced layer, inspect thickness, flatness, overall integrity of geocell cushion for acceptance.

6. On-Site Monitoring & Record

Arrange special technicians for full-process tracking inspection; record geocell specification, laying range, nail spacing, filling thickness, compaction test data and hidden construction photos for project filing.
