What is a cement blanket?
Cement blanket, also known as concrete sheeting, is a flexible, blanket-like composite material impregnated with dry cement powder. Essentially, it's "concrete that can be rolled up like fabric for transport and installation."
In simple terms, it can be thought of as a thick blanket impregnated with cement that hardens when exposed to water during use.
Composition and principle of action
Cement coating mainly consists of three components:
3D Fiber Frame: Typically woven from high-strength fibers (such as knitted fabrics with a midlayer) into a porous 3D mesh structure that provides support and reinforcement.
A layer of composite dry concrete powder: evenly distributed within a fibre framework, containing cement and special additives.
Outer protective film: Some products have an outer layer that keeps the inner powder dry until watering.
Its mechanism involves hydration upon contact with water. After installation, simply pouring water on the mat or immersing it in water triggers a hydration reaction within the dry concrete powder, causing it to harden, forming a thin, strong, and durable concrete layer.
Main Features
Convenient and efficient installation: eliminates the need for on-site concrete mixing and heavy equipment. Pre-cut mats can be laid and hardened with water, significantly reducing construction time.
Excellent performance properties: after hardening, the material provides water resistance, fire resistance, corrosion resistance, and high flexural strength. The curing rate is controlled, typically achieving over 80% strength within 24 hours.
High adaptability: Excellent flexibility allows adaptation to difficult or uneven terrain (e.g. ditches, slope protection).
Environmentally friendly: low-carbon technology, uses 95% less material than traditional concrete, and minimizes impact on surrounding ecosystems.
Main Applications
Due to their rapid deployment and flexibility, cementitious coatings are particularly suitable for:
Emergency and rapid construction: flood control, road repairs and temporary infrastructure for disaster relief.
Infrastructure maintenance: rapid strengthening and protection of roadside ditches, slopes and culvert inlets/outlets.
