Honeycomb cellular geomat - Highway Gentle Embankment Slope Greening & Erosion Control
Honeycomb cellular geomat - Highway Gentle Embankment Slope Greening & Erosion Control
1. Project Background
Mountain provincial highway reconstruction project, total slope area 28,000 ㎡. Embankment cutting slopes are sandy loam with gradient 18°~23°. Annual rainfall reaches 1150 mm. Bare slopes suffered serious sheet erosion and rill gully formation during rainy seasons. Concrete revetment was rejected due to poor landscape compatibility.
2. Main Challenges
Prevent surface soil being washed away before grass germination;
Achieve rapid vegetation coverage with low construction cost;
Lightweight construction, limited large machine access along roadside.
3. Selected Material
PP Honeycomb Cellular Geomat, thickness 20 mm, black anti-UV grade, tensile strength ≥2.2 kN/m.
4. Construction Scheme
Slope trimming, remove loose debris and smooth terrain;
Unfold geomat along contour lines, overlap 10–15 cm between rolls;
Anchor by U-shaped steel nails at spacing 60 cm;
Fill mixed planting soil and spray hydroseeding with grass & shrub seeds.
5. Project Outcomes
✅ Honeycomb structure fixed topsoil effectively; no new erosion gullies after three rainy seasons.
✅ Vegetation coverage reached 91% within 4 months.
✅ Construction cost saved nearly 40% compared with perforated geocell scheme.
✅ Perfectly integrated with surrounding natural landscape.
