Honeycomb Cellular Geomat Full Introduction
1. Basic Definition & Aliases
Honeycomb cellular geomat, also widely named honeycomb geocell mat / cellular confinement mattress, is a foldable large-area three-dimensional honeycomb geosynthetic mattress made of UV-stabilized modified HDPE sheets connected by ultrasonic hot welding.
It is the integrated mattress form of standard honeycomb geocell, also called a full-panel geocell mat, used for soil stabilization, slope erosion control and subgrade reinforcement.
2. Raw Material & Production Technology
· Raw material: Virgin HDPE blended with anti-UV, anti-oxidant and anti-freeze additives; black as standard color for long outdoor service life, green/tan for landscape projects.
· Sheet types: Smooth, textured (embossed for friction), perforated (drainage & vegetation root penetration, mainstream for slope geomat).
· Manufacturing: HDPE strips are welded at fixed intervals into continuous integrated honeycomb panels, fully foldable for compact transportation and quick expansion on-site.
· Core structural index: Weld joint peel strength ≥8kN/m to avoid separation under soil load.
3. Key Technical Specifications
· Cell height: 100/150/200/250/300 mm (150mm universal for slope & subgrade)
· Welding pitch (cell span): 330/400/500/660 mm
· Sheet thickness: 1.0–1.8 mm (≥1.5mm for heavy-load mine road & river bank)
· Panel size: Customizable full-width roll mattress, no splicing gaps during laying
· Hole design (perforated geomat): Uniform round holes for drainage and plant root growth
4. Working Mechanism
(1) Lateral Confinement Stabilization
After unfolding and filling with soil, gravel or aggregate, each honeycomb cell locks filler tightly to restrict lateral sliding, greatly improving soil shear strength and forming an integral rigid load-bearing mattress.
(2) Drainage & Hydrostatic Pressure Elimination
Perforated cellular geomat quickly discharges rainwater and underground pore water, eliminating water pressure that triggers slope collapse and subgrade softening.
(3) Composite Reinforcement with Vegetation
Plant roots penetrate perforations and interlock with the HDPE honeycomb mat, forming a dual reinforcement system of soil-roots-geomat for permanent ecological protection.
(4) Uniform Load Dispersion
Scattered vertical loads are evenly distributed over a wider soil layer, reducing subgrade settlement and pavement rutting by 40%–65%.
5. Core Advantages of Honeycomb Cellular Geomat
· Integrated full-panel design, fewer construction joints
Continuous mattress structure reduces splicing work, avoids weak gaps between separate geocell pieces, improves overall structural integrity.
· Foldable & low logistics cost
