Project Location: Residential project over clay soft soil / civil soft‑soil driveway


Project Overview: Residential access driveway with a total area of 1800 ㎡, open to passenger cars and light‑duty pickup trucks. The in‑situ subgrade consists of high‑plasticity clay, which softens in rainy seasons. Conventional crushed‑stone driveways suffer from severe rutting and depression.


Engineering Pain Points: Clay subgrade softens upon water infiltration, lateral displacement of crushed stone, recurring rutting defects, and substantial annual maintenance for stone refilling.


Selected HDPE Geocell Specification: 100 mm cell height, welding strength ≥14 N/cm; paired with non‑woven geotextile; infill: 20‑40 mm crushed stone.


Key Construction Points: Remove top humus soil → compact subgrade → lay geotextile → stretch and anchor HDPE geocell → fill crushed stone and compact in layers.


Performance Outcome

‑ Rutting deformation reduced by 85 % compared with unreinforced crushed‑stone sections;

‑ 12‑month continuous monitoring shows minimal pavement deformation under repeated vehicle traffic;
