Introduction to HDPE Geocell for Driveways


HDPE geocell driveway is a permeable ground stabilization paving system adopting cellular confinement technology. It is fabricated from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) strips, welded by ultrasonic welding to form expandable 3D honeycomb panels. After unfolding and anchoring on compacted subgrade, fill the honeycomb cells with crushed stone/gravel and compact, the geocell locks aggregate particles and restricts lateral displacement, turning loose gravel into a semi-rigid composite slab for driveway load support.


Working Principle


The HDPE honeycomb cells provide **3D lateral confinement**. When vehicle load applies on the surface, cell walls prevent gravel from spreading sideways. The point load is distributed to a wider subgrade area, greatly reducing vertical settlement, rutting and potholes. Perforated cell walls allow rainwater infiltration, achieving permeable pavement function and avoiding ponding and mud pumping on driveway surface.

- Cell height (common for driveway): 50mm /75mm /100mm /150mm

- Sheet thickness:1.1~1.5 mm

- Welding spacing: 300~800 mm

- Tensile strength ≥18 kN/m; weld strength ≥14 N/cm

- Temperature range: -40℃ ~ +60℃

- Surface: smooth / textured; optional perforated holes for drainage

- Service life: 20–25 years under buried condition
