Geotextile: Application in Water Storage Reservoir Projects
1. Project Overview
The water diversion dike of the irrigation area undertakes the functions of farmland irrigation, water storage and water regulation, and the dam operates under long-term high water level conditions. The dam filling materials are miscellaneous, and the mixing of different soil layers is likely to cause internal hollowing. The drainage system is prone to sediment siltation, which endangers the safety of the dam body.
2. Application Details of Geotextile
National standard staple fiber geotextile with a specification of 250g–300g/㎡ is adopted.
Isolation geotextile is laid between different filled soil layers of the dam; anti-seepage and filtration geotextile is arranged at the connecting gaps of the dam abutment and dam body; all underground drainage blind ditches and discharge pipelines are wrapped with geotextile on the periphery.
3. Main Functions of Geotextile
Isolate filling materials of different soil properties to avoid structural damage of the dam caused by mixed soil layers; achieve efficient water permeability and soil filtration, prevent sediment from entering and blocking drainage facilities, and stabilize the internal water pressure of the dam body.
4. Implementation Effect of Geotextile
The dam drainage system remains unobstructed and free from siltation for a long time. The internal water pressure of the dam is stable without seepage and deformation. It ensures safe year-round water storage and stable water conveyance in the irrigation area, enabling safe and reliable project operation.
