Ecological Revetment Anti‑Scour Cellular Confinement System Project for Water‑Level‑Fluctuation Zone of River Sluice Station
Ecological Revetment Anti‑Scour Cellular Confinement System Project for Water‑Level‑Fluctuation Zone of River Sluice Station
1. Project Overview
This is a slope‑protection project for a domestic navigable sluice channel. The river bend features high flow velocity, and the slope lies within the periodically fluctuating water‑level zone. The project requires flood‑resistance & anti‑scour performance, bank‑slope stability and aquatic ecological restoration, with a total length of approximately 820 m.
2. Engineering Pain Points
Intensive flow scouring occurs at the river bend, resulting in continuous collapse of the original soil slope. Conventional precast concrete block revetment suffers from high cost and poor ecological performance with limited space for vegetation growth. Repeated water‑level rise and fall makes slope soil highly vulnerable to erosion by waves and surface runoff.
3. Selected CCS Specification
Perforated UV‑stabilized textured HDPE cellular confinement system; cell height: 100 mm; sheet thickness: 1.4 mm; weld spacing: 380 mm (perforated type).
4. Key Construction Points
1. Trim the slope, remove loose soil and boulders, and lay non‑woven filter geotextile;
2. Unfold the CCS from slope crest down to slope toe and fully tension it; install densified steel anchor stakes at slope crest, slope toe and high‑flow bend sections; connect modules with locking clips;
3. For normal water‑level‑fluctuation zone: backfill improved planting soil into cell cavities, and hydro‑seed mixed shrub‑grass seeds;
4. For high‑velocity bend sections: cast thin‑layer concrete inside cells for enhanced anti‑scour capacity, and compact in layers using small‑size vibratory tamper;
5. Install toe‑protection structure at slope toe together with supporting drainage facilities.
5. Project Outcomes
✅ Effectively resists scouring from bend flow and eliminates bank‑slope collapse risk;
✅ Vegetation coverage reaches over 85%, delivering ecological revetment and replacing large‑area rigid concrete structures;
✅ Approximately 22% reduction in overall project cost compared with the precast‑block solution;
✅ Tolerates repeated water‑level fluctuation without large‑area cracking.
