Application of Perforated Honeycomb Geocells in River Ecological Revetment

River Ecological Revetment / Water Level Fluctuation Zone

1. Project Background

Urban river comprehensive renovation, long riparian zone with obvious seasonal water level variation. Wave scouring and buoyancy effect easily cause bank collapse. Concrete revetment cut off aquatic-terrestrial ecological connectivity.

2. Main Challenges

· Alternating dry & submerged environment; water buoyancy threatens slope stability;

· Must balance anti-scour performance and ecological permeability;

· Prevent soil loss under water flow impact.

Selected Product

Perforated HDPE geocell, height 150mm, sheet thickness 1.5mm. Below normal water level filled with angular gravel; above water level filled with planting substrate.

Key Advantage of Perforated Structure

Holes equalize water pressure on both sides of cell sheets, effectively avoid upward uplift deformation caused by water level rise & fall. Solid geocell is prohibited in such fluctuating water zones.

Outcome

The revetment maintains structural integrity during flood periods. Aquatic plants and riparian vegetation survive well, forming continuous ecological buffer zone. Maintenance cost reduced by over 45% compared with rigid concrete slope.
